Join Kidical Mass PDX for a family bike camping adventure to Stub Stewart State Park.
Getting beyond the Washington County suburbs is the biggest hurdle when contemplating a family bike adventure to Stub Stewart from Portland. We’ve solved that by renting a moving van to transport cargo bikes, trailers, and other unruly conveyances. We’ll meet near a MAX station in Portland and load bikes, etc into the van. People will ride the MAX to Hillsboro and be reunited with their bikes/trailers there. Stub Stewart is a pleasant 22 mile ride through the Tualatin Valley and along the Banks-Vernonia Trail from the Hillsboro MAX station.
The route is largely low traffic and picturesque. There’s a small hill leaving Hillsboro and the final 1/4 mile into Stub Stewart is quite steep. Aside from those the route/grade is family bike friendly.
There will be a grocery, playground, and bathroom stop in Banks (about halfway).
Cost will be $25 per family to cover the truck and camp site reservation. You’ll be on your own for MAX fare and food.
