UPDATE 6/21: The Kidical Mass Bike Camping trip is full. Feel free to sign up for the wait list via the Eventbrite link at the bottom of this post. Or if you’re family bike camping curious come on by to the meet-up and see what it’s all about.
Have you ever thought it would be fun to take your family camping by bike?
This is your chance to join us for the 2nd annual Kidical Mass Family Bike Camping Trip on July 20-21.
Every effort has been made to plan a family friendly trip. About half of the 22-mile route is on the Springwater Trail. The other half is on streets that range from quiet to busy. The worst stretches have bike lanes, but several miles will be on low-ish traffic narrow rural roads. There are 2 significant hills… descents on the way there but climbs on the return.
You will have to pedal the miles, but know that this is a supportive and empathetic group. We encourage first time family bike campers who might be on the fence to join us. We will travel as a group, obey the rules of the road, and take frequent breaks.
Cost will depend on how many families show up… likely $15-$18 per family to cover camp site fees and firewood.
You’re on your own for food. We will stop at Gresham Main Park for Saturday lunch (restaurants nearby). Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast in camp. Sunday will be a little more fluid… perhaps late lunch at Cartlandia.
Our destination is Dodge Park. They have excellent bathrooms w/ showers.
See the route w/ elevation profile here.
Still want to join us? Great!
For those who are family bike camping curious but not quite ready to hit the road, we invite you to come talk family bike camping and check out our loaded bikes at the meet up… Woodstock Park 7/20 10am. None of us are experts, but most of us are happy to talk family bike camping. No registration necessary to come look. You and yours are welcome to ride with us for a ways. Our route takes us near Cartlandia.
